I left teaching to go to this stupid job back in 2006 and I have no idea what I was thinking! I worked more hours and got ten times less pay, (pretty much no pay AND had to chase my money to get paid!) then if I had stayed in teaching. I find it telling that so many years later, as I am reading the other reviews, they are verbatim what I went through and every single person I was in "training" with is no longer with the company within a year. It's like a weird cult or something and if you complain even once, your "leads" dwindle to nothing and that use that as a tool to get rid of you and say you are not performing. They flood you with nationwide leads in the beginning and give you enough to hook you and make money for them but then you have to chase the commission after that. Nice huh?

For any serious sales professional this company is a joke. I cannot believe I was sucked in and am disgusted with myself for being mislead! I was a 6+ figure sales professional. I was a "perfect" (according to my recruiter) match for this company. They pay for crap. Only pay once they have collected and expect you as an eldercare advisor to help collect past due fees. I was hired to help families, not as a a/r specialist! The commission structure is a joke! They expect you to develop "professional" referrals from doctors, lawyers, cpa's, financial planners and such. Have you ever actually tried to get an appointment with a physician? Even drug reps with samples can't get appts! The only positive is when you actually get to help families. However, I've placed close to 10 families since I started3 months ago and have yet to have a fee paid by a partner property. Plus, the total commissions for those placements don't even match the miniscule draw against commission that they pay. Have you ever actually had anyone listen in to your phone calls and IM you while you are on the call? Just wait - it's going to happen. They come in 15 minutes into the call and missed all of the pertinent details, but feel compelled to "help" you with the call. I IM'd back, get off my call, I'll talk with you later. They count how many hours you are on the phone, but don't provide you with enough leads in the beginning to make those numbers. This entire business model is a crock. You can make more $ working part-time for a gym. They treat you like the W2 you are, but pay you like a 1099 w/o the benefits of the tax deductions. The only people who are making $ are those who have been at it for several years, or those with family affiliations in the industry (a clear conflict of interest, but a blind eye is turned). If you truly care about working with the senior population, please, please, seek other options. Work for a home care company, get your CNA and work Hospice, go back to school and get an RN. Anything but this company. Just because they were recently bought by Warner Pincus doesn't mean crap. Run, run, run away.

This is certainly not what it seems. Be very clear that you EARN PAID TIME OFF but you do not get paid time off! Commission only and if you take a vacation you earn nothing, in fact you lose your potential leads that would have come in. That is only one of many inconsistencies. I am a true sales person and know how to close a sale but the leads they are providing us are mostly a joke with way too many job inquires or people with no assets. Oh yeah, we only get paid if people have private funds to pay for their care, the other people they don't want us to spend any time on. But there motto this year is "No family left behind." Call one of the Eldercare Advisors and tell them you have no money but need assisted living and see how much help you get. Also the training is a joke if they want me to help people with medical problems I've never even heard of. Some of the famlies are told to expect that I have many years of experience in senior housing. This is not an easy job. Just be forwarned!!!!

Do NOT waste your time. This company will promise you the moon, but will act like they OWN you!!! There is absolutely NO job security and the training is a joke. They honestly do not care about helping families . It is all a numbers game as the are a "telephone sales company". You are expected to call people starting at 8 am. How many sales do you honestly think you will get bothering people who are getting ready for work. They could care less if something happens beyond your control and you are not able to make calls. The supervisors are incompetent and DO NOT know how to train. There is a HUGE turnover rate and I can see why now. DO NOT GET SUCKED IN!!!! They will pay for you to go to Seattle to train, which was a complete waste of time. I honestly wish I had done more research before I became one of their victims!!! They will make it sound all gloriefied, but expect you to shell out cash for a computer with their specifications etc. Not to mention to record you on the phone . STAY AWAY!!!!

I have been with A Place for Mom for over 2 years and am sad to say they are heading in the wrong direction. They boast in their literature that their Eldercare Advisors have many years of experience in senior housing and health care. The sad truth is many of the people they hire have zero experience helping seniors and families. Many of the the clients have multiple medical issues that require competent direction and a strong knowledge of the resources available. They will tell you this job can be done in 40 hrs per week and that is simply a joke if you want to do it well. The communication from corporate is amazingly poor (has been for a number of years) with very little respect shown to those who are in the field generating the revenue. They have a habit of blaming the Eldercare Advisors for not being able to convert completely unqualified internet leads. They promise the partner properties highly qualified leads and then pressure the Advisors to the point of sending many unqualified leads. They try and convince you that the other Advisors in your area are a "team." There is nothing about this job that is team oriented and trying to make it appear so is embarrassing. They have these "team goals" we have to shoot for every month for no reason other than to help make our supervisor a bonus. But they make it seem like ithis benefits the individual Advisor somehow. The Early Success Coaches encourage some to steal professional leads from other Advisors and send bad leads to our partners, they call it "spray and pray." Half the Coaches don't come from the industry and are just corporate robots. Love helping the families but the management is some of the most incompetent/disingenous group I have ever worked with. This company is quickly losing credibility and integrity within the senior housing industry. The facilities we refer to are starting to feel this and more and more are cancelling their memberships. This company needs to understand the importance of hiring competent Advisors to help the families in need or they won't have anyone to refer to.

Love working for this company (NO , I'm not affiliated with the owners or ANYONE in the company.) I am an employee. IF you are not used to true sales, making phone calls, and balancing your time...well...um...YOU are not going to like this job. I think that folks who are posting negative comment will have NEGATIVE comments about any job...That is the nature of the beast. Im a true sales person...AKA a "HUNTER." That is why I make 6 figures and have in the past......Just being honest! Im sure there are those making 1/2 a million who will say negative things about the company /or business they are in....

I currently work for a place for mom, but I recently gave my notice. I had a lot of heart and soul in this company, but recently learned I am disposable. I have seen strong people come and go quickly. This company has potential, but they need to value their employees. Everyone is disposable. They will never grow to their potential if they continue to devalue their employees. There is so much negativity in this sales organization. It truely is disheartening to put your heart into something and to realize that you are not valued. I am usually a very positive person, but you can only be devalued so many times. In the last 3 monthes 3/4 of our team has left or been fired. A Place for mom sets sales goals that are unattainable. They have very few long term advisors. Look around, there is so much out there to deter you from wanting to work for this company. Make sure your decision is well thought out and educated.

A Place for Mom can be a great work experience for the right person. Be prepared to work 50+ hours per week for COMMISSION ONLY. There could be more positive reinforcement for employees instead of the constant negative reminders that you must meet your numbers for any given month. It is a numbers driven business but could use some help with management style. This company has a lot of potential for growth and should focus on employee retention even if it means there are fewer advisors in the market. A few good advisors can do the work of 20 average ones.

I worked here for one year. They never paid me what they owed me. In addition to all the heartache involved in placing people in assisted living, you are also respopnsible for collecting the fees from the facilities. And they don't like to pay and come up with all reasons for non-pay. The ones that do pay take months and APFM sits on the commission $$. You can wait many months to get paid on a placement you worked your guts out for! IF you get paid. BTW, a class action settlement was granted former employees in the amount of millions! Haha. God does not like ugly!
