Oh God, everything is an issue. We have spreadsheets for every little piddly task. And if a person makes a mistake we must review our procedures and rewrite them. Hell, we can't even send an email with using a correct procedure. We spend so much time going over the correct procedure and analyzing them, it's pathetic. Document, document, document, monitor, monitor, monitor. Issues, issues, issues. Why can't we just come in, do our work and go home without everything having a problem?

AIG sucks! This is a mismanaged/unethical service center. I worked there for 2 years (about 1-1/2 years too long). Unreasonable case loads, unreasonable expectations, no management support, ineffective/useless training, BS metrics/reports and appraisals. The "worker bees" are the ones who suffer. There are many competent people on staff who are never recognized for their hard work and effort. It's a demoralizing atmosphere.

There's alot of spin/lying about why turnover is so high. The reason why they are always hiring is because people are leaving for better companies (sometimes for less pay) after AIG trains them. If the upper management has it out for you, you're gone. They don't care if you're a lit manager or if you've worked for the company for 20 years.

The customer suffers, too. 900 files had to be transferred to SoCal because they didn't have the reps to adjust the claims. Run, don't walk away from this company. The pay isn't worth your mental health!

I think the overall concensus is that AIG/American General/AGSI is cheap; however, it is important to realize that it's not only the company: it's the management therein. I had the pleasure of receiving a 5% pay increase (proof that the salary increases are not capped); however, I was still the lowest compensated worker on my team. This obviously had nothing to do with my job performance. I was the top producer with the highest quality rating on the team. Management, in my experience, is just too afraid to lose team members by not giving salary increases to team members who do not deserve to even keep their current positions. A 2% raise for a person who does absolutely nothing is too much in my opinion. It would be better to cut your loses and get rid of a poor producer than continue to drag around their dead weight. Management seems to have the perception that as long as a body is there, things will work out. What they don't realize is that leaving team members around that perform low in quantity, quality, or both decreases the morale of the good employees in the organization, and causes the good ones to leave. I think people seeking just a job should brush up on their interview skills and apply, because they will most likely receive their 3-3.5% annual raise just for being there. For those of us who take pride in our work, yet receive little compensation, the only alternative is to jump from department-to-department in search of a manager that values your work, or leave the company for a different, more rewarding field or office.

AIG is the largest insurance company in the world and has been paying employees 3.5% salary increases for the last 10 years. It achieves record profits every quarter and still does nothing to advance employee salaries. Recently it was fined for $1.6 billion dollars, that's right billion, and the company president said the company is strong enough to sustain this hit and still be profitable. It turns out he was correct. It just makes you wonder why they would have that much money that was uncommitted for company use with no specific purpose for it. If they can pay off $1.6 billion in fines without blinking an eye, they should be able to pay employees more.
