The company prides itself as being a low cost operator, then how come San Francisco is the main corporate office?

The PHX office is possible the worst run office in the world. All of a sudden everyone quit and they are in panic mode, especially Napolean and the worst manager in the office, who lost almost his whole team. I would walk out, too if I had to work for that guy and listen to him drone on and on and on about nothing. The Litigation Manger is the only competent manager in the place, she should be running it and maybe we wouldn't be in this situation, but they treat her like crap too so its only a matter of time before she splits. Benefits are good, respect, nonexistent unless you can handle 100 features a day and make your numbers blue every week. Career growth is not possible. Coworkers are great. Today corportate send out a survey, how do you like working for Esurance? I can't wait to start mine. And I bet half the people in this office will be filling up those comment fields with some great feedback for good old Napoleon and Esurance.

Dumb company but at least it hasn't gone under...yet.

CEO focuses on the small stuff ignoring the fact that while a certain large competitor (yes, the lizard) is growing its business by more than the size of esurance, he is focused on how much paper the office is using and whether some dude from QA just took the last of the coffee. Great start-up ceo, smart, but the company is no longer a start-up.

Marketing is run by a finance guy 3000 miles away -- genius. Actually, he might be the smartest guy at the company...got the hell away from the home office while collecting his fat paycheck and long terms. Some good folks in marketing but a few too many kids throwing money around.

Finance/acct dept seems to be pretty well run, if more due to its #2 than its #1. Same story for IT (which is really really run by its VPs) but you have to feel for the IT dept...they get blamed for everything so its no wonder why everyone seems to have a cya mentality.

Lets see, ins ops...not sure. HR seems harmless, overstaffed but generally harmless. Legal is legal. Run by a smiling bobble-head, but the day to day lawyers are ok other than they're lawyers - they could move stuff a little faster. Better than at my last company.

Pay is sub-par unless you're in the c-suite. Face time matters - you can sit on your iphone all day as long as your boss sees you sitting there. The closer you are the the smg level, the more this is true. Benefits suck out loud - loved how pto was changed to only benefit those who'd been there the longest...or the smg. NOT market for SF, just market to other crappy insurance companies regardless of crappy location. Office space is nice. Co-workers could be hotter/cuter. Far from good lunch spots.

Best part ... management HATES this website!! They post BS positive reviews.

What a head ache. The worst place I have ever worked.
You better look over you back at all time. You have BM and WS lurking in the distance.

This office has more cry babies than a day care center. The same little crying over the same things at this office. Maybe if those who don't really understand their job would stop trying to blame others around them and either get a clue or pack it up and move on then the work environment may improve.
As long as the whiners are around they will continue to make the office look bad as well as those around them.
As far as management I think the best thing they could do is to start cleaning out all of the little babies who would rather cry than get the job done. How unfortunate that good people can be thrown into the pit because of a few bad apples who really shouldn't even be in the insurance industry.
Madison isn't as bad as these whiny babies make it sound and once they are gone it will greatly improve.
Pay is Ok for now but the benefits are not that good. Respect ? What is that ? I would fire half of the place if I were one of the managers. Bunch of cry babies !
Job security ? Hmmmm you tell us. Work/life balance has not been much of an issue. Career growth I don't see much opportunity, at least moving up within the office. I have watched that game played out.
Location is nice, not in the city mess. Co worker competence is ridiculous, you have one year people who think they know more than the managers and talk bad about them when they are the ones without a clue. Because of all of the whiners in this office it makes a really bad working environment. All you have to do is run into the BM's office and cry your eyes out and you get a free ride ticket to not have to do your job for a while ( like they aren't playing that one for everything it is worth ) and the rest of us get to handle the workload.
Get rid of the babies and this may be a good place to work.

This could be a great place to work if they could get rid of about half of the office. There are many good people out there looking for jobs and these people need to get a clue they are replaceable.

Upper management needs to listen to what is really going on in this office and do something about it. Not ask for opinions and sit and do nothing. They are right many people working here are in the wrong position and need to move on just to find out the next company will expect you to work for the money also.

As for the UM she needs to go talk about incompetent doesn't know the first clue about managing. Sits and blames everything on corporate or sits and complains with them just making things worse.

Benefits are just ok better then nothing.

Career potential is out there if the company grows.

Respect- You get what you give.
Benefits- Suck!!!!!
Job Security- Who else will they give 50 million features a day to so yep.
Work/Life Balance- I don't think about claims or my sucky manager when I leave every day.
Location- Awesome since we moved. Thank you for that Mr. Decision Maker Man.
Co-Worker Competence- If you like morons.
Work Environment- Decent.
Dear ABM, please go find a job elsewhere. You suck and we are tired of looking at your goofy facial hair. You are weak. You can't make decisions and you cater to the whines of your managers. Grow a spine! A good job for you would be laying pipe.
CM- Is that the tall thin guy? I think I've seen him before but it's been a while. He's usually cooped in his office as out of touch with the day to day as possible. He doesn't have a clue either. We're screwed.. Ditto Man to the rescue!!!

Esurance: Good intentions 5 years ago. Complete failure going forward, miscalculation of market conditions, demographic choices, employee treatment, etc.

Pay: Very Low. Promises of advancement were bold-faced lies perpetrated by all levels of management. No future opportunities.

Respect: Zero. From day one we were treated like children. Hypocricy, dishonesty, threats and unannounced negative changes are just the start of the cancer at this company and Madison, WI location.

Benefits: Sad joke. Benefits are the worst possible. HR changed health insurance to some religious nut-job insurance company that eliminates birth control. No doctors in state for anything. 401k match is paltry, but that is small beans. HR rep at madison, wi, is so awful there is no appropriate description. She has divulged all sorts of personal, confidential information about most people who work there, lied to everyone, worked with management to cover up HR/Management blunders, sat idley by while sexual discrimination complaint filed on insane unit manager. HR rep talks about inappropriate subjects all the time such as: her improper relationship with a priest, dressing up as a prostitute for halloween, confidential information about employee candidates, etc, etc.

Job Security: Everyone shall be fired? This is supposed to motivate people? Maybe someone thoght they were supposed to encourage people to send out resume's. That might explain management goals.

Work Life Balance: Yeah, there is that, working over-time unpaid to try to catch up with the nightmare they strap on us. They have no concept of quality work and are sigularly focused on metrics that are silly at best. Everyone hates their job and the company, so who cares?

Career Potential/Growth: Hohoh, no way Jose'. The new line is: "We are lucky to have our jobs a little longer". Anyone good has already bailed. When people find out what bailors are making, resume's must go screaming across the internet. Complete disregard for customers, customer service and accuracy ensure this will not go on much longer.

Location: Had to mark something not a -5. 120 person cube farm with 13 people working in it. So for 120 planned employees there is only one bathroom per sex. In the heyday of esurance, there were 18 employees and you had to take a number to wait to use the bathroom. Prison class toilet paper topped off your experience.

Co-workers: Not too suprising only people left don't have options. Used to be nice people till management pitted everyone against everyone in a non-funny verson of Celebrity Deathmatch. Back-biting, slandering, lying and screwing your neighbor are some of the only communication left in the office.

Work Environment: Building is a remodeled strip mall. 120 cube insane asylum with 13 people working in it. Freezing all winter, boiling all summer, one bathroom, depressing scene with all empty space and people dropping like flies. The only form of entertainment is seeing how bad other unit manager can stink up the mens room.

HR and management keeps saying that we will have no more layoffs in claims and yet on Friday material damage started laying off the desk appraisers. Esurance has no job security and it is obvious that White Mountain the parent company plans to sell Esurance soon. The express unit has already been given their 60 days layoff notice. This means that the workload moves on up as other claims reps are giving their notice on a weekly basis.
