I hate Target because it's a disheartening place to work. No respect, no recognition. The stl is always trying to enforce policies that do not exist, using his minions to manipulate you with wordplay to get you to feel threatened enough to follow these bogus policies. I swear hr is required to have a degree in manipulation tactics to get a job with Target. Simply asking to see the written policies is not enough, for if you can't just follow the 'policy' without argument, 'there must be deeper seeded issues you have with the company'.

The pay beginning is quite ridiculous and so are how raises are handled. I feel bad to see people get $.08 and we can say it's ok because it's the economy's fault. With the cost of living going up always why isn't our pay to compensate for that?
I feel like I get respect so I won't spend time on that or benefits. I think it's awesome you only have to work as little as 20 hours a week and get health benefits. I'm very secure with my job security also.
As far as the carerr potential/growth it's a joke what they make you go through. It doesn't matter how good a team member you are, and know you are, you still have to go through interviews that frustrated the heck out of me. I failed 4 times before I guess coming up with the answers they wanted to hear.
Finally, I'll just comment on work environment. It is so hot in our building. I realize times are bad and making cuts is necessary but not when it comes to work environment and making your employess work in their own sweat. After 10 minutes of work my shirt is already soaked and I'm one who doesn't usually sweat that easily. It's a continuous complaint for alot of team members I hear.

If you thought you hated Target before, hold onto your britches. Now, I do realize that as a retail employee you must expect that things get a little hairy during the holiday season. BUT Target's taking the grab-for-every-last-dollar thing to a whole new level this year. Word around the campfire is that on Black Friday as opposed to last year's hours of 6am-11pm we will be open 5am-midnight, and for the days between Thanksgiving & December 23 we will stay open til midnight. And, those of you like myself who celebrate Christmas festivities on Christmas Eve, too bad so sad because instead of 7am-6pm hours on Christmas Eve we'll be open this year from 7am-7pm. I'll be intensifying my job hunt as of NOW. It's only gonna get worse. Give them time... 24-hour stores are just around the corner.

Pay and raises are determined off of perceived potential, not the performance of the individual. If a manager thinks that somone is going to be able to be promoted some day they will get a higher raise even if the other person is performing better. No respect, leaders will do what they want to make themselves look good.

I worked at the store as a security guard. I stopped a 16 year old girl from stealing a bottle of alcohol and got fired for it. You see I was only hired to be a deterent to theft, but had no power to stop anyone. Being a cop for 29 years did not give me knowledge to training enough to stop her. You think target would have backed me if I let her go like the manager said I should have and she killed someone?

Never ever ever work for Target the Managers do not treat their team members with respect. The "open door policy" is a crock it means absolutely nothing. Only use it as a part time job do not try to move up in the company because the moment they figure out that is what you want to do they will find anything to write you up about.

Executives have been known to do entire LOD shifts while sitting in TSC. Yes, an entire shift of supervising a store while sitting off stage. Executive routinely have team members and team leaders do tasks that should exclusively be done by salaried Executives. Executives do not respect Team Leaders under than and show even less respect for rank and file Team Members. Executives have yelled at, snapped fingers at, demeaned and disrespected team members in front of other team members as well as guests. Executives have also thrown full fledged temper tantrums, thrown merchandise on the ground both on the salesfloor and the backroom. Executives tell team members to contact HR or call the integrity hotline to report things that are not above board. If you do this you will suffer negative consequences. Anonymity is a joke. HR and Integrity Hotline calls just make the executive team look harder at those team members they do not like personally, regardless of the team members performance and go after those team members even harder. Job security is not contingent on your performance but on your ability to suck up to Executives. If you are average or even below average in your performance but kiss up to your Executive you will continue to be employed. If you try to help guests and are respectful to all who cross your path you will be told that you are spending too much time with guests and you will be perceived as undermining your Executives authority and gunning for their job. To my knowledge we were hired to drive sales, be fast fun and friendly... Doesn't that mean being proactive, being kind and courteous to guests, trying to help them find the merchandise so that they can purchase it (driving sales?) and just plain trying to do a good job because heck, isn't doing a something well its own reward? And we really aren't being paid what our labors deserve. Getting a thank you from a guest or a fellow team member will have to suffice.

Pay: well I average about 25-30 hrs a week and the only reason I'm okay with my check is that I don't live alone. The year is just about over and my gross pay has not even reached $8,000.
Respect: so far it's okay, but I would feel more respected if management didn't lie or slightly smudge the truth. For exmple when I asked what it would take to be trained in customer service or food avenue? I was told I had to have a green speed score and red card conversion rate for three weeks in a row just to find out that was a lie. Or when I asked about changing my availability and ws told by the stl that you can only do that if your in school which I later found out was a lie. Also to pacify the sometimes ignorant customer the gsa will side with the guest even if they are wrong and reprimand you in front of them which does not help.
Benefits: I have been in Target going on eight months and still do not have a 401(k) or healthcare.
Job Security: It seems okay I guess as long as you stay on certain TL's good side, my HR TL happens to be a loud mouthed gossip, I think she even talked about me at one point (being that she was whispering in one team members ear and that person then looked over at me). Also they don't even want it to get out that you have about a 7 minute grace period if your late, and I was told if you don't keep getting enough red cards you could be fired. Also the speed score seems to be a trap especially since a guest taking all day to pay can take down your score.
Work/life balance: with the way i'm scheduled sometimes it seems they don't want me to have a personal life. I had one schedule where I opened then closed back to back for that week. I've been approved for a day off then the etl scheduled me for that day off and when I pointed it out to her she said I would need to find someone to take my day when she made the mistake, and I'm not even the only person she's done that to, and when I called off she gives the veiled threat that it will effect my performance review but what does that matter when the highest raise for us underlings was about 15 cent.
Potential growth: I don't know it seems I'm not really getting ahead mayabe they don't feel I deserve it, while they discuss one cashiers attendance problem then let her know they would like to traain her for other areas over those who may deserve it more but maybe I don't know what I'm talking about.
Location: it's okay and close to my home.
Co-worker competence: I noticed that some of the higher ups need some help cause sometimes they seem a bit lost, although the gstl's seem knowledgeable
Work environment: It's alright but as a cashier we get it the worst it's freezing in the winter andhot as hell in the summer and guest with stupid questions or comments and nasty attitudes that they bring with them can bring down an environment.
