Cybeyond is terrible. FACT: You will never see the 70k they promise! You will be fired or quit before your year is up, just like 99% of the people they hire.

Graduate from: University of California - Berkeley (aka UC Berkeley, aka Cal)
Time w/ Cbeyond: ~2 years
Location: Santa Clara, CA
Positions Held: Sales Rep, Team Lead, Sales Manager

I feel very lucky that my first job out of college was at Cbeyond. I would recommend starting at Cbeyond if you are serious about getting into sales. I experienced many highs and lows at Cbeyond - just like life, the people who dedicate themselves and maintain a strong work ethic, are the ones who turn out successful.

It is business to business outside sales - of course there is turn over, of course there are let downs, of course there are idiots riding their base salaries, of course there is a learning curve - the sky is also blue.

Cbeyond's sales force is meant to be young and energetic - with that being said, the vast majority of the reps are 21-25 and do not have prior sales experience (just as I did when I started). Young people can be dumb, immature, irrational and above all - near sighted. Many of the posts here prove exactly that. On the other hand, young people are also capable of incredible feats and the Cbeyond culture brings that quality out in their employees – as many as possible at least. In any industry, in any department, the crème of the crop rise one way or another.

I met many mediocre people while working at Cbeyond. I also met some amazing people who I hope will always be in my life. I learned so much, I don't even know where to start. Cold calling – real cold calling in person, cold calling over the phone, prospecting, appointment setting, learning to talk on the phones, running appointments, closing deals, leading with heart, training sales reps, training peers, interviewing prospective sales reps, working directly with the hiring manager, handling legitimate customer service needs, having one on ones, conducting one on one meetings, conducting formal meetings, learning about HR, running sales meetings, having fun, being challenged.. What else could you want if you are looking for a sales job?

In less than 2 years Cbeyond gave me an invaluable working experience. Not many 25 year olds can say they were given a 40 inch plasma screen TV by their company, been to a president's club sales trip outside of the US, own a $1000 suit that their boss bought, drive their dream car, have run a $5 million sales team and most importantly, walk with the confidence and experience of a young professional businessman. I can - and I owe Cbeyond for providing me an environment to achieve all of that.

I now earned a mid-level sales job and love my new company. But without my success at Cbeyond, I would not have had this opportunity. Several times when discussing management, employees and running a business, the director of my new company says in response to some of my comments, "wow, you already know all that?"

Yes I do. Thank you Cbeyond.

My title was Sales Rep. I started working in Santa Clara office. From the day I joined Cbeyond i was impressed with the management style and how everyone was friendly and helpful. The environment is very competitive, uplifting and positive. My coworkers and managers always helped me in bringing me up and make me successful. I truly enjoyed working at Cbeyond and I made many friends. However, my life has changed and I had to relocate back to Eastcoast to take care of my mother. Therefore, I had to quit the position. I am still in contact with all those people and I would love to go back and join them again.

I worked at Cbeyond in Houston for a couple of years and had no complaints. Yes it was a tough job but most sales jobs are. You have to be willing to cold call your tail off but if you work hard you make good money. Good location and a fun group to work for. You can move up if you hit your numbers.

Cbeyond is the type of company that looks good on paper, but in reality once you are exposed to the environment you wish you would have kept interviewing for jobs. Management is young, very inexperienced, and very unprofessional. They have 24 to 28 year olds that are in a position that is considered high at Cbeyond, but in the real world they would be tenured sales reps at best. They dont have any sort of leadership, the structure is extremely micromanaged, and they have very little respect for their employees...you are a statistice there, not a person. Average tenure at this company is 4 to 5 months, hourse are typicall 730 am to 700 pm...sometimes longer....and they tell you that you will make 70K your first year...if you do good, you will make 55K. It is high pressured, transactional sales, with little to no effort placed on development or career growth. You can teach a monkey to go knock on 50 doors a day, if you like to feel belittled, under appreciated, and surround yourself with a group of unprofessional managers...Cbeyond is your place!

This is not for everyone. Just like the Navy seals, or acting, or football, or tantric sex, or any other thing in life, CBeyond is not for everyone. I have a sister who has an MD in Molecular Pharmacology. She is one of the most persistant, focused, workaholics I know. There is no way in Hell she could do this job.

It takes a lot of talent, intelligence, and psychological durability to excel. You have to be an emotional athlete.

If you enjoy Outside Sales, knocking on doors and busting sales, then this is for you. If not, then you need to figure out what you want to do with your life.

I have been an employee for quite a while and I just read one review reference us to "used car salesmen". The only thing this review was correct on is the fact, the environment is high pressured and structured. Used car salesman shoot from the hip, we actually have a proven sales model and training to back this up. Most companies would give anything to have our sales model. I have had multiple job offers (as we all have, because companies desire our training and persistance), compliments on my sales technique and ability to just "ask for the business." It is not for everyone, some companies do not like sales reps. That is not Cbeyond's fault. So as far as not being respected, you could not be MORE WRONG.

Without the structure Cbeyond would be just another "used car sales job." The opportunity for growth is unlimited and I know exactly where my career path is leading me. Cbeyond provides a very sound progression structure that allows unlimited career growth if you just simply follow the sales model.

Sales is in the top 3% highest paid professions in the US according to IRS statistics. That cannot be achieved by sitting on the couch every day and not doing what every other sales professional does. COLD CALL. No matter what stage of your sales career you are in, NEW BUSINESS is generated by some sort of COLD CALLING.

As far as the pay: sales positions very rarely pay a comfortable base plus commissions and bonuses. Cbeyond does all 3 and also rewards us with sales contests, cool prizes and trips for those who go out and achieve at least the minimum expectations.
All sales positions have quotas and expectations. So please do not confuse high standards with micromanagement. You are dead wrong.
Cbeyond does not look for just anybody, it was made very clear to me up front that Cbeyond is looking for the best of the best. If you are not the best someone better will rise to the top.

So it sounds to me like people just did not want to put in the long hours and take the rejection that comes along with sales. Does your inability to do the job make it Cbeyond's fault? I think not...maybe you like many other people I see on this board just simply have a problem understanding IT IS JUST YOU, NOT CBEYOND.

Cbeyond is one of the best companies that I have ever worked for. They are one of the only sales companies that offers a base salary and awesome benefits. I truly believe in the product that we sell and have seen so many happy customers over the past few years that I have worked for that I would definatley recommend cbeyond to my family and friends. They are the only company with many applications within the package that all businesses can use.

As for all of the people that have written negative things about the company, I am sure that you were probably lazy. If you put in the hard work, you will see the benefits. For anyone that is talking about the sales enviornment, remember one thing, it is sales. In any sales job that you take you are required to sell and help hit monthly numbers, that is how sales works. This is actually how the world works. There are timelines and numbers in every line of work.

IF you are a business owner who is reading this site to see if you should choose Cbeyond for your business, all I would ask is that you do an educated search. Do a google finance review, check the better business bureau, and also google your current provider if you are seeing negative things about a company. You have no idea who sweat pea 306 is who put up a blog online, and they also never respond back to say that yes cbeyond did fix my problem, if there was an actual problem that they did have. I will even attach some websites for you to check out! I truly believe in the company and what they have to offer. They are a great employer.

If anyone is interested in Cbeyond services, I definately recommend it.

The work environment is high pressure used car sales. Telecom sales is not respected in the professional world so this does not look good on a resume. There is very little career potential at Cbeyond because almost everyone turns over. They measure their seniority in months. The Sams give you no respect and you will be extremely micromanaged. They will count your cards everyday and call you and ask what street you are on and stand over your shoulder while you make calls and yell at you. Dont work for this company there are better places to gain sales experience. Dont believe the lies of the recruiters. Pay is terrible and you will never see 70k like they promise! You will make $35 k and be fired or quit before your year is up like 99% of the people they hire.
