This company is hell to work for. You are not allowed to have a personal life. If you try to persue anything like a degree while working for them then you can hang it up. Their attendance policy has also got to be the worst in the railroad industry. CSX is only concerned about one thing. And that is their stocks. If it just so happens to fall short for any reason, laying off about 2 or 3000 people doesn't faze them. If they can make the technology to have 1 man do the job of three then they will happily terminate the other positions. Not only that but they will pay you one man pay while doing the work of three. CSX SUXS!!!!

I am a low level manager promoted from conductor. Yelling and name calling are common with upper level management. Ruling by intimation is an everyday occurrence. Managers are terminated for things completely out of their control. Senior management speak of respect and ethical behavior but neither of these are practiced.

24/7 on duty coverage with no off days and no assistance. Management pays 3 times as much as non management for insurance. Disrespected on conference calls by upper management including cursing and name calling.

Good place to work. I love it because it is close to my home. The yardmasters and Terminal Manager could be better but hey, that happens everywhere. Benefits good. Great job if you don't mind the elements (freeze in the winter, roast in the summer) Training is good.

I am currently the lowest level manager, I was promoted from being a conductor. I work for a company where screaming is a normal form of communication. Intimidation is the most common form of management. The people in Jacksonville (head office) speak of ethics, leadership and setting an example- but moments later I have heard those same people yelling and calling people names. Almost all measurements used to determine the 'health' of a terminal are not just 'massaged' but totally fictional. There is an enormous amount of pressure to maintain the standards of dishonestly and intimidation. I can give specific examples of out right lying and harrassment, but I will wait until a new position with a different company is secured.

The railroad in the transportation dept. is a JOKE. We are regulated by a bunch of know-it-alls that work downtown and look at numbers, when half of the numbers are FUDGE. We use to have officials that came up working for the railroad, now we have a bunch of snotnose kids out of college that are lied to about how the railroad works. I really enjoy my work, but I hate all the B.S. politics that roll downhill to us. We are also subject to dismissal for a rule infraction that is equivalent to a person in the office not pushing in their chair.

Position: conductor. 2 years on job. Benefits good. Pay OK. Hours suck. Lower and middle managers are outright hypocrites and just plain evil for the most part. If you have thick skin and don,t mind dealing with incompetent managers who will step on anyone they can, and suck off anyone who could promote them, then it is not that bad of a place to work.
