When I did work at Einstein Industries it was basically like high school all over again. Only fun part was the daily soap opera (watching Pam and Seth).

I'm truly surprised this company is still open and not being sued by the government, clients, or coworkers

Einstein has great products a great working environment that provides the opportunity to make unlimited amount of money depending on how good and hard you are willing to work. Like every other company in America the recession has slowed (but not stopped) the companies growth. The CEO tried to grow the company too quickly and the recession hit. He decided either pay some people late or lay people off... What would you do? Any one who has an eye for opportunity knows Einstein is a great place to work and gain a lot of experience/knowledge. This company will continue to be a leader in the health care/legal marketplace for years to come. Innovators in internet marketing, no question about it.

Einstein Industries is dreadfully misnamed, because there is nothing genius about this corpse of a company. When I first started, I was told it was one of the "fastest growing web companies in San Diego." I was mildly excited and tried to do an exceptional job. I now leave EI with my work ethic destroyed, a cut salary, and my faith in American business in shambles. But hey, I got to browse the web a lot.

Pay:
As has been noted, the pay was recently slashed across-the-board from its previously low rates. Significantly below industry standards, and it's always been like this. Don't believe any excuses about the tough economy.

Respect:
Don't count on it. The co-workers in your department will respect you, but don't expect any recognition outside that. You're just taken for granted. And hey, there's plenty of people they could line up to take your cherished position. Or so they said.

Benefits:
Sub-standard and no 401k matching.

Job Security:
Ha ha. What is horrible is not simply the fact that lay-offs occur, and occur often, it's that the management seems to have a fetish for keeping employees uptight and wondering if they're next, then assuring them they've got money coming in, and then booting them to curb with no warning and no severance pay. Once they laid someone off while he was on a company project out-of-state, and tried to keep it secret until he came back. No joke.

Work/Life Balance:
It's somewhat annoying to balance your life around unpredictable paychecks. Other than this minor inconvenience you can keep Einstein out of your mind. Except the occasional nightmare.

Career Potential/Growth:
You can advance for about a year tops before you hit a dead end. Most jobs are specialized and don't have any room for advancement or learning. Good for entry-level and then GET OUT.

Location:
Not bad but not great. There are enough restaurants within distance to avoid bringing lunch and storing it in one of the crowded decrepit fridges.

Co-worker Competence:
It's a mixed bag. Anyone that is competent is underpaid. It's also not unusual to put someone in a department they know little about. Once when a co-worker asked for help from a specialist, the specialist said "Hey, we're all in the same boat!"

Work Environment:
The bathroom is like a dungeon. 'Nuff said.

Overall EI is dismal. If you really want to work at a place with the name "Einstein" in it, try Einstein Bagels. The wages are comparable and they actually pay on time.

To Einstein Management,

Perhaps you would have seen less “whining and complaining” had you been up front with your employees from the very beginning. In light of recent events, your mantras of “we’re turning the corner” and “we have the money, we just can’t get to it” seem to be less than accurate, if not entirely dishonest. There comes a time when the stock rhetoric you learned in business school (assuming that any of you went to business school and did not learn your managerial skills on a used car lot) needs to be thrown away in favor of actually telling your employees how it is. We all knew the company was in trouble, yet you continued to tell us we were turning that corner, while continuing to pay us late. We asked for updates and did not receive them unless we continued to hound our project managers (whose job descriptions, I doubt, included such obligations). A little honesty goes a long way, and quite frankly, and I believe I can speak for many current and former employees, it was your reluctance to be honest with us that spoiled the morale more than just the simple fact of not being paid on time ever would have. What you demonstrated was a lack of respect for your employees, especially when you laughed it up in the conference room while we wondered when we would get paid. Believe you me, none of us wanted to live paycheck to paycheck; none of us wanted to have to depend on that check arriving on time. Unfortunately, the painful truth is that what you offered was an entry level job with entry level pay – a living wage, true; but definitely not a comfortable one – in one of the most expensive cities in the country.

In a gesture of fairness, though, I am thankful for my tenure at Einstein. I learned a lot and met a great number of intelligent, talented, and generous people with whom I hope I can remain friends for many years to come. Yet Einstein is failing, and the measures that management continues to take only prolong a painful, yet ultimate, demise.

Well, just when you thought things couldn't get worse at good ole' Einstein, they do. On Jan. 5, 2008, the company announced (to those who are left) that salaries would be cut 20 percent across the board and that the company would no longer be offering employee benefits. Wow.

Yes, Einstein is having some major challenges right now. Last I checked so is GM, Washington Mutual, The Tribune Company, etc. etc. etc. The checks have been late, but everybody gets paid, which is more than you can say for many other companies. Anyone who was laid off received all pay due them. I rate job security as zero, but that applies to most other companies as well.

Pay and benefits could be better, but everyone who is now writing negative reviews knew that when they accepted the position they had. Senior management is respectful of the employees. They have blundered by not communicating paycheck status, but they are doing better in that area.

The work environment is very good now. The negative thinkers and whiners are now gone; some of them have commented on this site. Those left are working very hard, getting paid (late, but getting paid)and are doing all they can to help the company through this tough time.

The location in Mira Mesa is fine. Good freeway access, services are plentiful around the area the office is located. The building the company is located in is not a place you want your family and friends to come to visit you at.

The co-workers there are great. Very intelligent, very talented people. The sales reps. sometimes over-promise, like sales people do. But they are good people who know the industry very well. Work/life balance is good, you can leave your work at the office if you want to.

Einstein is an entrepreneurial, Internet marketing/website development company. Is it any surprise that the company is going to struggle during a recession? Those who have left should speak well of the company and take the high road. We who are left wish you well in your future endeavors.

Dear Einstein Industries, Einstein Medical, Einstein Dental, Einstein Law, and other affiliated organizations, including DocShop.com:

After an extensive evaluation of your company, I am convinced that your performance as my employer was shameful at best. For the future, I recommend that all management personnel do a thorough gut-check before opening their mouths to speak about any matter regarding late pay checks, lay offs, employee negativity, or restructuring. Ask yourself several questions before speaking, including (but certainly not limited to): Are any of the things I’m about to say untrue, unreasonable, or inconsiderate of the feelings of my employees? Will I sound like a total douchebag to someone who works harder than I do to earn a fifth of my salary? Will my statements anger my employees, who will then leave, start their own companies, and further undercut our client base? If the answer to any of these questions is “Yes,” you may want to reconsider your comments. Better yet, you may want to just re-evaluate your entire business strategy and downsize on the lies, poor working environment, and general douchebaggery. I’m obviously not a management or sales expert (After all, I can spell correctly, write coherent sentences, and use punctuation occasionally), but if I were you, I would take a close look at my relationship with my employees and how it relates to my success as a company. Or lack thereof.

Pay: I never got a raise, regardless of positive reviews during my employment.

Respect: Now, I could be wrong here, but it really started to seem like management didn’t care about the production teams. As just one example, when paychecks started showing up late, none of the management personnel gave updates on when the checks could be expected and why they were late in the first place. I can only assume (since they didn’t say otherwise), that the walk from building 1 to buildings 2 and 3 was probably really long.

Benefits: After I told my doctor what kind of insurance I had, she said, “Oh. I’m sorry.”

Job Security: I got laid off and all my friends got laid off, except for my buddies who quit before they got laid off. I’m personally grateful to all those ex-Einstein employees who started web development companies catering to plastic surgeons, cosmetic dentists, and personal injury lawyers. I’m surprisingly qualified to work for their companies.

Work/Life Balance: When I left the office, I was mostly unhindered.

Career Potential/Growth: I’ve learned “allot” at Einstein Industries. Although there’s no actual career potential there, I believe I have experienced tons of growth during my employment, mostly about dealing with people. Or how not to deal with people. I’ve learned that general disrespect for your employees leads to revolt, that kissing every client’s you-know-what doesn’t lead to great sales, and that doing your job well doesn’t mean you get to keep it.

Location: Eh. Mira Mesa. Not easy. Not hard. Didn’t much care.

Co-worker Competence: I felt comfortable working with about 95 percent of production and about 25 percent of everyone else. I was most uncomfortable with the general decision making of the upper management. It seemed there were bad decisions made everywhere. Everything from finances to building purchases, from products to tradeshows, from new hires to layoffs. Fail, fail, fail. All of it was poorly planned, and even more poorly executed.

Work Environment: I was a huge fan of the squeaking pipes, the unfinished ceiling, and the broken appliances in the kitchen.

In conclusion, I feel pretty certain that Einstein probably won’t last that much longer. There are too many other companies that Einstein has spawned that can do the same job for cheaper. Einstein has also lost or laid off many of its most talented people, and everyone left is looking for a way out.

My review of Einstein Industries Inc, otherwise known as Einstein Dental, Einstein Medical, and Einstein Law in Mira Mesa, California. (San Diego, California)

Einstein Industries - Pay, Wages, and Salary

I rated the Pay at Einstein Industries a -3 partially because of my low pay and partially because of the disparity between production and sales. Clients also paid a lot for their services, so you'd think some of that would trickle down to the worker bees.

Respect - Einstein Dental

I felt respected by my peers within my department at Einstein Industries. But the low score is the result of interactions with upper management. Their repeated assurances that the company was doing well despite our financial situation was a virtual slap in the face to the workers.

Einstein Medical - Medical Benefits, Dental Benefits, Retirement

The Benefits at Einstein Medical are adequate. It's nothing to get excited about. I gave this a low score because there's no company "matching" with the 401(k).

Einstein Law - Job Security / Employment Security

At Einstein Law, job security is inversely proportional to the number of people in your department. No matter how important your role is, if your department is large, you will be released. It's not a matter of if; it's a matter of when.

Einstein Industries - Work / Life Balance

At Einstein Industries, you can have a healthy work/life balance. Once the job is done, you can get it out of your mind.

Einstein Medical - Career Potential / Career Outlook

The career outlook at Einstein Medical is ok at best. For entry-level workers I can see this as an excellent opportunity to improve your skills. Think of it like boot camp. It'll make you tougher, but you don't want to stay too long.

Location - Einstein Dental - Mira Mesa

Einstein Dental's location I felt was fine. There are restaurants nearby and relatively easy freeway access.

Einstein Law - Co-worker Comptence

Within my department at Einstein Law, I have complete confidence in the competence of my co-workers. They're great at what they do and they're vastly underappreciated.

Work Environment - Einstein Industries

I gave this a positive score but it's probably going to fall in the coming days. At Einstein Industries we used to enjoy the environment. I'm happy for the people who have escaped but I'll miss them.

**Apparently TRUE postings here on jobvent about Einstein Industries have been pulled. I have talked to my colleagues and they had posts that were removed, but I think people need to know what is going on at Einstein Industries. We know the truth hurts, but should be told**

Pay: Einstein Industries will not pay you industry standard pay. Einstein Industries will not even pay you on time. We are now two paychecks behind and Einstein Industries keeps telling us "we're waiting for this big check". Yes so after this big check what happens? Where is all of the money at? Didn't Einstein Industries tell us they made 3 Million last year....where is it all?

When Einstein Industries can't pay us, they have their management team who is not responsible for the financial crisis that Einstein Industries is in take the heat from the employees hounding them on when will Einstein Industries pay me? It's not fair to the management team who is also not being paid by Einstein Industries to have to explain every single day after "payday" that they don't have any updates on the checks. Oh and can we talk about "reverse seniority"? When Einstein Industries does get the money, it goes to the newer people first. Ok, so that basically means there is NO SENIORITY at Einstein Industries.

The CEO and VP of Einstein Industries have only come in twice to tell us that they didn't have the money to pay us. Initially their excuse was that Einstein Industries had the money, but they could not access it. Ok, so a week and a half later after that check Einstein Industries employees were finally paid. Ever since then Einstein Industries has not paid their employees on time. It's been three plus months now and the employees at Einstein Industries are fed up with no explanation from the company as to why they are not being paid other than their new excuse of "we don't have the money". Wait, I thought Einstein Industries had the money, but couldn't access it. Some kind of misleading info going on there.

The first time Einstein Industries didn't pay us it was at the end of the month so rent for a lot of people was due and some people have kids. Our manager proceeded to tell us that we shouldn't be living check to check. Excuse me? Who is she to tell us how we spend our money. Maybe she should direct her statement to the people in charge of the company since they seem to be the ones living check to check now and making their employees lives stressful and basically making everyone in production stop working.

Sure we show up to "work", but we're really just sitting over here lol'ing at youtube videos and funny photos on the internet until Einstein Industries pays us, which hell might freeze over before that happens. How's that for milking the clock?

In addition to that, the VP of Einstein Industries told us that if not being paid on time was an issue that we would stop by HR and they would "arrange for us to not work here anymore". WHAT? You're a great CEO, how about stop by HR and we can help you out not get rid of you. Next time I see him on the streets I'm going to thank him for letting me work at this great company since apparently that is what he said people do when they see him.

Respect: Apparently none when the CEO and VP can't even come tell us to our faces every single day that they cannot pay us. Show us some respect and we'll do the same. Pretty easy right?

Benefits: Dental/Med were decent. Einstein Industries offers no direct deposit, well Einstein Industries doesn't pay you on time either, so what did that even matter?

Job Security: Einstein Industries is not a secure place to work. Einstein Industries doesn't even pay their employees on time and Einstein Industries expects people to work for free. Why am I even here today? Oh yeah, bc I'm getting paid to watch youtube!

Work/Life Balance: As soon as my 8hrs hits, I'm out! I don't take work home with me and I usually have to spend 1-2 hrs every morning remembering where I left off bc I don't really care about my job at Einstein Industries basically bc Einstein Industries has pushed me to this level.

Career Potential/Growth: There is no career growth at Einstein Industries. Well sure there might be, but Einstein Industries will not give you a raise for the extra work you are doing.

Co-worker Competence: A lot of smart and good hard working people at Einstein Industries, but if Einstein Industries doesn't want to pay us on time, we don't really care anymore. We're all pretty competent of this simple job, but Einstein Industries not paying us on time really brings us down resulting in not wanting to work.

Work Environment: I'm currently staring at a wall that was put up in front of me a few weeks ago. It's great to have to stare at a wall all day long. You'd love it, really you would. And on top of not being paid on time at Einstein Industries and no explanation other than the misleading lies they're telling us I don't know what could be better than staring at a wall to make the time pass.

Einstein Industries used to be a fun place to work. But as soon as Einstein Industries stopped paying us on time for every check in a row we all started to stop caring about working here.

Everyone at Einstein Industries shows up for the same reason, to get paid. We don't love working there, especially with the conditions it's in right now. For a while we had free lunches once a month, which were awesome. That soon stopped happening, but then they were buying lunches only for the sales people and nobody else in the company. Their reasoning for that was it motivated the sales people. Ok, yeah that's great and all, but what does it do to the rest of the people? Sure didn't motivate me. It seems Einstein Industries has all of these grand ideas, but they fail to think/plan them out. It's like moving the deck chairs on the Titanic.
