I worked for the hartford in IPD for 2 years before becoming pregnant. They made me pregnancy experience so bad that I actually quit without taking me maternity leave. They actually straight out denied my doctors notes saying that I need to use the bathroom regularly and walk around accasionally because of my circulation. My doctors were shocked they had never had an employer EVER deny a doctors note. Furthermore, during my pregnancy I noticed that everyone was moving up to hirer positions and I was going no where (well I also obviously wasnt going out everynight getting trashed with my managers). I confronted my manager asking why I was still within the same position even though I had exceptional quality and she replied "Well.. your pregnant so why would be move you up when there's a chance you'll be leaving." Great job HL for descriminating against a pregnant women. I am sure that she would have denied the conversation and so instead of making a complaint I quit without taking maternity leave and never looked back.

The Hartford CRO Department is a joke. There is no respect for anyone. Unless you are sleeping with the AVP, you will never get promoted. Forget about the life you once had, this place will suck all it all out of you.

Pay and Respect: There are several areas of opportunity here - let's focus.

Benefits: Ditto

Job Security & Work/Life Balance: One never knows from day to day.

Career Potential/Growth: Inconsistent.

Location: Excellent

Co-worker Competence: Several areas of opportunity exist here.

Work Environment: They just don't get it - they think pot lucks, MVP & EOM (because the staff are morons) are all good answers to the morale problems, negativity, etc. - again - good effort, but there are several areas of opportunity here!!

The Hartfrod in Lake Mary Subrogation wouldn't be able to adjust there way out of a paper bag. There are a handful of competent workers who have claims experience. Everyone else including all of middle and upper management have NO claims experience. Still can't understand how someone can manage a unit they have no practical knowledge in. The middle managers are horrible. If you have any claims experience you talk over their heads. If you question their practice of "doing anything to get the money in" then you most likely are practicing bad faith. It is amazing that this company has not been sued for their unethical practices.

There is no work/life balance. We are told to we are salaried employees and MUST do anything and everything to get money in the door. That means working 80 hours a week and spending you entire life in that office. The benefits are horrible for such a large company... a $500/$1000/$1500 copay that has to be paid prior to your benefits kicking in?! You could go poor being sick here.

Job security is non exsistent at this place. Everyday they threaten you with losing your job and hold you to unrealistic recovery standards that only 4 people have ever achieved. They allow people with no experience handle claims and adjust claims w/no license even though 30% of the states we work in require a license. If you blink wrong or question anyone in upper/middle management you are labeled with an attitude problem and threatened with being written up. If you explain that what they are asking is unethical you get told you are being difficult and get put on verbal and written warnings.

They hire people with claims experience just to tie theirs hands every chance they get. They tell you to make decisions on files and then you get audited and fail because you didn't make that one last effort to get the money.

I would recommend that if you are a claims adjuster to NEVER work for this company in their subro office. Not only are you looked at by your peers in other offices as an idiot... you get treated like a 5 year old who needs constant instruction by people who don't have any idea what they are talking about.

RUN far far away form this company if you want any quality of life and want to keep your sanity.

Pay: While I make a nice salary, compared to the education and work experience I have, it is below average.

Respect: Please don't make me laugh. Unless you come from India or worked in the credit card retail industry, there is no respect for anyone working below the level of Manager. Once you get your Tier 7 Managers position you are safe to just trash the staff with impunity. Not only are you encouraged to write people up if they don't perform exceptionally, if you try and coach someone and give them a chance to work out their problems, then you get put on the hot seat. Now positions are getting eliminated because they are being outsourced to India. Supervisors are know nothing and then blame you when you ask them a question they can't answer - how dare you!!

Benefits: cost too much, cover too little.

Job Security: Maybe if you hang out with the managers after work for drinks at Dexter's - or sleep with one of them - that's fairly common with one or two of the managers there - men or women, they take on all who are open to the idea. Here's another one - pretend to hurt yourself really bad like maybe tear a tendon and then go on disability. Then you can go sue someone in management because they asked you why as a 45 year old former minister with a porn addiction you wear an earring. LOL. There are other ways too - you can go to law school and then make sure you eat enough to outweigh several small vehicles in the parking lot, then cry every time you get critical feedback from your bosses.

Co-Worker competence: Used to be high, but now all the smart people are jumping ship because the writing is on the wall. I just wish I could find another place that used to be as good as Hartford was before Cal left and the Progressive people came along. Some are trying, but mostly, it is about the bottom line. Soon the old Hartford guard will be gone, and someone will come along and buy the company and split it up.

Remember - at the HArtford, it is not about doing the right thing, but doing the right thing to advance your career and get someone fired!!

STAY AWAY!!! You have been warned.

It used to be great working here, sups w claims experience and knowledge, before the "new regime".

I have never worked at a place where mngmnt is so self absorbed and so insecure about themselves they walk around using scare tactics to cover up their lack of leadership skills and more importantly, their lack of claims knowledge, followed by 0 accountability. If you are an experienced claims adjuster, dont work here (subrogation)!!! If you like to brown nose openly and lack any common sense, then welcome to the 2nd largest 3 ring circus in the world. If you like to work where you have more knolwledge, skills and common sense than your tl, welcome! If you like to work where your tl consistently pulls the race card to hide her inefficiences, welcome! If you like to work w tl that have multiple personalities and you have to figure out which "one" showed up to work today, welcome!! If you like to work for mngmnt that have 0 insurance knowledge (hired from collections dept at Burdines/Macys), you can forget claims knowledge or experience, then Welcome!

Mngmnt obviously have their own cliques and love to reward incompentecy. Note, former tl from Macys, in charge of damage and rental dispute provided no knowledge, therefore provided ridiculous direction that adverse carrier would simply laugh and hang up or never call back, was promoted to a home office position in cahrge of paperless process (We have more unresolved issues w this process than an episode of Heroes).

If you like to work at a place where your contacts w prior coworkers at your last job is your best resource for file direction, Welcome! If you want to be scolded, written up or simply held down by scare tactics (mngmnt loves to use the current economy as a means to keep us quiet and grateful to be working at the Hartford)then, Welcome!! If you dont care about the potential for bad faith, then Welcome!!

P.S. Positions are available right now!!!

The Hartford in San Diego handles the AARP policies, they pay terribly, expect you to take on the difficult and demanding skills with out pay increase or very much training, and then if you dont do magnificently with the new skill you will not bonus or get your annual pay increase. There are better call centers to work for in San Diego, i would only suggest this place to get the call center experience.

HCSG is a divison of the Hartford that services the AARP by managing a large contact center for it memebership. The only reason The hartford is involved in this activity is because Prudential bailed out and AARP was comfortable with the Hartford picking up the call center. The Hartford said ok because they sell $3 billion in insurance products to the memebership, otherwise they would have no interest and would prefer not to do this activity if they could bail gracefully and not damage the relationship. Within Hartford the HCSG group is a step child. The work day is normal, benefits good and pay ok. There are few opportunities for a career at HCSG and transfer to corporate wold be required in order to move up . If you just want a safe job this is it. For those looking for more you will become disaapointed over time.
