Just replace progressive with home depot, everything else is accurate except you would love some overtime in an attempt to make ends meet.

RUN! If you are a new or prospective employee RUN!
Progressive does not care about you, you are nothing but a number
Progressive will overwork you and add more on top of that
Progressive will intimidate you, make you feel incompetent and worthless
Progressive will use your emotional breakdown in their favor by making you feel as though you have to work overtime to be a better employee
Progressive will push you to the edge, and keep on pushing
Progressive only cares about the shareholders, to make them happy means under staffing and overworking.
Progressive will highlight every problem, and ignore all but maybe one or two of your accomplishments
Progressive does not promote easily, but are really big on sideway shifts.
Progressive is not a healthy place to work, they really don't care about you or your wellbeing in the slightest.
South Florida is the worst area to work with such low morale, bullying and intimidation. Everyone in my office too has just had it and are looking for jobs. An entire office secretly looking for new jobs, too scared to make their resumes public in case of repercussions from Progressive. How very, very sad that they do everything in their power to make you feel like you cannot do your job, making you feel you owe it to them to work harder, and put in extra hours daily for no additional pay. How many work late? How many take work home with them? Nearly everyone and management quite happily turns a blind eye.

What would happen if everyone stopped the overtime and working from home? Management would really show their fangs and true colors. Human Resources, it's no secret you read all these posts, you're supposed to be there to help us, where is all this help we have been promised? New hires? Still not as many as we have lost. You yourselves said volume is up so why less employees? Oh wait, I know this one, the company was not structured properly before right, but now it is? You fired managers, you simply chose not to replace the lower minions because it was more profitable. I own shares in Progressive, can I make a request for some assistance please?
I do have to applaud Progressive for the employee hiring system though. Hiring fresh out of university is ingenious as they have little work experience and are definitely more pliable and accepting that the treatment of your employees is standard. I would like to see you try the same thing with people who have more work experience. I assure you, your salary will by no means cover the loss of friends, loss of time, loss of motivation, and most importantly your loss of happiness.

To everyone who is in Progressive looking for a new job, best of luck, I am right there with you.
Tho everyone who feels worthless, degraded and at the edge of insanity, its not your fault, and you are not alone. You don't have to put up with it, you alone control your destiny, you alone have the power to change it.
To anyone who is looking at joining Progressive, open your eyes!

I have worked the Home Depot for a bit. I find our store to be an awesome place to be. The managers are very respectful and appreciative of their employees. I dont hear other employees complaining much about their Depts. All around it is a great place. There are days that are good and those that are bad. But most are good.

I worked in construction for over 20 years prior to coming here. So i have a great knowledge of preactically everything in the store. This helps me i know. I have recieved homers and legandaries because of this knowledge.

I think alot of the people that complain so much outside of the bad management they might be used to. are those who have no knowledge of the construction industry. Why get a job at a business where you know nothing about it. I would get a job at a hair salon because i know nothing about it. Workwhat you know not what you feel you should be taught and have your hand held the entire time.

Im happy here, i get steady pay and hours, and now have every at and sun off with mostly constant hours.

Employees are greeted by managers with enthusiasm. and most days depart with an honest pat on the back for doing a good job.

Feel sorry for those that dont have a good workplace. i like my Depot. I plan on hanging around. Assistant managers positions will come up. I might get one sometime. Im not daydreaming, im 40 years old and work and do my job. thats why i do well here. for those that hide outside shipping doors and inbetween pallets of insulation to text there partner. you will get no where. It is after all called work for a reason.

I've been an employee at this store for quite a few years now in D26, and I can safely say that the mismanagement of this store is staggering. The overturn rate is ridiculous. I've seen veteran employees fired after years of dedicated service for trumped up reasons, and I've seen genuinely good employees driven to quitting after not being able to take the bullshit handed to us from management anymore. We are cripplingly understaffed. We are expected to cover 3 and sometimes 4 departments. Even some of our department heads have to manage multiple departments. If we ask for more financial compensation for all this added responsibility we get laughed at. Incompetent people float on by and hard workers get shit on everyday. Management is big into favoritism and certain people are given hugely preferential treatment over everyone else. In the past year we've gotten a new store manager and all new ASMs. All the replacements are 'bleeding orange' corporate drone types who have no clue how to run a store, but sure know how to shift blame from themselves and back stab people. My pay is a complete joke, and I get treated like shit and worked like a dog. Worst of all I'm not shown the slightest bit of appreciation for all the extra things I do. I'd write more but at this point I feel as though my head is going to explode just thinking about all this.

I work at 1550 in Lakewood Colorado. The place is a very fearful place to work---several employees have been followed around by the cameras in the loss prevention office to be used to help persecute us with thought crimes. We have 3 new managers that have turned this place to trash. In 2009,this was a decent place to work with the usual crap to deal with;but, when our store manager was fired ,the house cleaning began---all the ASMs and many decent dept heads and associates have been fired.
It started with our evil district manager at the time decided to sacrifice everyone in his district he didnt like to save his own ass----thankfully,he got his ass fired when it was realized that he was the problem.
The problem is,he managed to get his team of evil bastards installed in our store before then...damn.
The first was an ASM named Bob Girard who was installed to fire anyone he was told or whom he didnt like--that was the first villain.
The second was the store manager Tom House----he is a real dyed in the wool two-faced bastard that wont treat anyone with respect and has anyone fired for stupid reasons such as one woman who had a blue dye in her hair----she dyed it back to assuage him but,he decided she needed firing even though she was great with customers and was very dependable and competent. He is the one who followed us around on cameras to bust us on thought crimes.
The third is an ASM named Lon Keatley who started out reasonably good but,has been turned into a pit bull who acts so brotherly while he gives you veiled threats of punishment or firing. He has been asked by several associates to help resolve problems we associates have with our dept heads but, does nothing but allows the dept heads to be jerks.
Many of us believe the managers are indeed encouraging dept heads to trump up charges against us to give us bad reviews and eventually fire us.The first people getting disciplined are all the higher earning,older,hard-working,and dependable associates. When one of the good employees gets disciplined, the rest of us wonder who is next.
This place is a very scary place to work---in this economy,we are all afraid of losing our jobs with all the bills we need to pay.
Is it any wonder everyone here feels depressed and terrified?
Our store scored the lowest employee morale of all home depot last autumn----believe me,it has only gotten worse.

hd is a great job if you are just starting out and need some exp. keep in mind it is retail and the hours reflect that. the biggest problem is that most hd managers have never worked any where else and have little training in managment. they have a huge holier than thou attitude and are terrified to think on thier own. do not accept what they tell you as the gods word because most likely it is not. asst mngrs have only one thing that motivates them, succes sharing bonus. everything else does not matter. stay away from the new castle delaware location, or most of the delaware stores.

HD pushes its focus on customers, and helping the customers is everyone's job but the managers or the store manager.
The management team tends to point out whats wrong but never does anything but pass the buck to someone else. They take almost no responsibility for anything that could go wrong, but all the glory when things go right.

Homer badges - it used to be that when you were mentioned by name in the VOC (Voice of the Customer on line survey) you would receive a badge. After each set of 3 the associate would "earn" $50.00
Now every time an associate is mentioned in a month.. their name, along with who knows what else is entered into a drawing to see who will get the Homer Badge for that month. 9 times out of 10 its the same 3 people that "win" month after month. Its also tends to be department heads...

I get that HD wants us to be more customer focused. I would love to be able to be more customer focused all the time, the harsh reality is management doesnt really care.
Its really not about the customer at all, Its about money and making plan.

But in this economy a crappy job is better than no job.

Home Depot is the worst company I've ever worked for. I work in the tool rental center for $9.05/hr and all of my male associates make $10.55 or more, and some of us were hired in at the same time. When I asked why I don't make as much as my male co-workers (I'm the only girl in the dept.) they said since I was hired as a cashier and then moved into tool rental 2 months later that I would keep my cashier pay no matter where I went in the store. Cashiers make 9.05; all other dept. makes 10.55 but if you move from being a cashier to another dept. you don't get the raise. They said I'd get a 30cent raise after 3 months, then it changed to 6 months, and then it changed to never. I had a co-worker who would show up an hour late every day and leave in the middle of the day to take his girlfriend to work (on the clock) and when I confronted him he started harassing me, telling me I need to deal with it or quit. When I pointed his behavior out to management they said they'd take care of it, they never did. He ended up quitting a few weeks later. I have a co-worker who takes up to 9 breaks a day (plus 30min lunch) and hides from customers when they come in. I pointed this out to my DH who told me she'd "talk to him." She never did. I've asked multiple managers multiple times over the course of 4 months to be transferred to another dept., they tell me there are no openings. Two weeks later I'll see new employees on the floor in departments I've asked to work in. When I'm asked by our dept. manager to stay late or work on one of my days off and I say that I can't he tells me I don't value my job and that I'm not a team player. When I get yelled at by customers, or when customers try and get something for free I use to call a manager to help with the situation, but I quickly figured out there is no point. They will take 30-45 mins just to come to the dept., half the time the customer leaves by the time they get there, and when they do get there they immediately take the customer's side, and completely shrug off store policies but if I disobey store policies for customers I get written up. I struggle everyday to find reasons to go to work and stay there. I am currently trying to find another job before I leave, but it's almost not even worth the 9.05/hr to put up with this sh** whether I have a new job or not.

This Company is the biggest joke, not only do most of the employees know nothing about construction, but the management is just as bad, most never had a real job or career.

The management team just care about sales for the day, what you did yesterday dont count today, and they are the most disfunctional bunch I have ever seen, the funny thing with the management of a Home Depot is they are dumber than the kids who work there, they just have the attitude they are better than the associate.

I am sure at one time Bernie and Aurthur built a soild company, but they are too big now and the companys values have went into the sewer, and so will there sales as there are to many home improvement stores willing to gain a new customer that do have values !!!!

I worked as a Supervisor at the Hilliard store, and I am so glad to be away from that place, myself nore my family will never buy anything from them ever again,as I lost all respect for the company after seeing them operate.

Store 4626 is thee worst ever. Our store manager is a napoleon asshole who talks down to people all the time. They schedule you outside of your availability, change the policy and procedures daily, GOD forbid you want to request a day off its like pulling teeth. All of the ASM's are just plain old rude, speak to certain assc, have attitudes, very sarcastic. You basically have to suck up to management to get promoted, they will find ANY reason to fire you. Management doesnt know shit, dont ask them a question bc they look at you or tell you that your suppose to know this, I'm sorry but I thought management was in charge for a reason. Luckily I work with a good group of people in my department it makes some of this BS tolerable. You can do it we can help MY ASS!
