At the end of the day, its a sales job. If you produce, your job is secure. If you get off to a rocky start or you all of a sudden have a few straight months of nothingnessm going on, you may find yourself unemployed. In a nutshell, if you are contacting the right business owners, being able to relate to them and explain what RL does even remotely good, you will continue to grow your book. The first 6 months to a year are a grind. Its def not a 9 to 5 job nor is it a 100 hour work week like some have said. I will make around $85-90k this year and $130-140k next. There is a ramp up period but once you find your comfort level, you will shine. I am not in an office that is micromanaged AT ALL. Sometimes its good to be watched and other times its good not to. Like I said, its a sales job. Put up numbers and the bullshit goes away. Struggle and show no effort to change bad habits and you will be back working for Yellow Pages or AT&T or one of those other places where the work environment is VERY HORRIBLE.

If you appreciate being micro-managed, selling a service that works for less than half of your clients and constantly having your job threatened by management, then this is definitely the place for you! I was an internet Marketing Consultant (iMC) which is fancy-speak for Sales. I couldn't think of a better career move - where you spend all day Tuesday telemarketing, making a minimum of 100 phone calls, 180 minutes of "talk time" and must fulfill appointment quotas before you are permitted to go home. They have also developed a most ingenious policy of not having a vacation policy - which essentially means that there is no vacation! This is the epitome of the 21st century corporation - a white collar assembly line that has succeeded in killing creativity. If you are considering employment with this company, I would urge you to skip it and go rent the movie "Office Space" instead. It is essentially the same thing!

Now, since it is apparent that the company has its managers and HR department posting "Fluff" reviews, let me just clear a few things up. I spent almost 2 years with the company and left of my own accord - so my review is not sour grapes. My review is a completely factual analysis of how this company operates - like a copier sales company, but worse! Turnover is like nothing I've ever seen with employees running for the exits like the building is on fire. Be smart - don't walk into a burning building!

If you are willing to do the work- ReachLocal is the place to be! If you expect to be an order taker- you aren't cut out for a job here. The rewards are the pay & your customersTHANKING you for under promising and over delivering. Nothing feels better than a happy customer that stays with me month after month & never questions my integrity or their marketing results!

So here is the thing about ReachLocal. Nobody in the company has the first clue about SEM. From the managers down the line. Its a culture of telemarketing where all they want you to do is open up the Yellow Pages and start dialing out of that everyday. There is about 85% turnover with employees. Nobody works there longer than a year, most people are ready to quit after their 1st month its so bad. Client retention is terrible. I would say on average 2 of out 10 clients renew their contracts. ReachLocal will say they have high client renewals but what they don't tell you is that they count each month as a renewal for their clients. But clients have to sign contracts that range from 4 to 12 months. Each month of this contract ReachLocal counts as a renewal even though the client can't get out of it till it ends. From my experience most clients will ask to get out of their contracts by the 3rd month because ReachLocal has produced little to no results for the money they spend. Its a terrible company to work with and a terrible company to work for. They recruit people telling you that you will make 6 figures in a year. They have 450 sales reps, only 10 in the entire company have books of business above 65k. They pay 6% commissions on monthly spend. Their might be 15 people making decent money at the company in the entire nation. They are a bunch of liars and backstabbers. Avoid ReachLocal at all costs!

I have been fortunate enough to work with ReachLocal for the past 3 years- and I have loved every minute of it. I began my career with ReachLocal in October 2006 as a local Internet Marketing Consultant in the Dallas office. At the time I was very new to internet marketing, but the ReachLocal training team and sales management quickly brought me up to speed. I have never been through such thorough training in a corporate environment before and was impressed with the amount of information I was able to learn and apply. I was quickly able to build my book of business as a local IMC. I worked my fingers to the bone- making contacts, networking with businesses, meeting with clients, managing campaigns and accommodating referrals. Because I was 100% committed to my own success and the success of the company, ReachLocal was committed to me. After about 9 months as a local IMC, I moved into the National Brands and Agencies side of our business where I now manage my own team and provide training for our agency partners and even new ReachLocal employees.

It is incredible to observe what ReachLocal has accomplished during my 3 year tenure and even more encouraging to know that I contributed to that growth. Every day in my job I am challenged to give my best and become the expert in my field. I am encouraged by our leadership and management. My favorite part of the day--- hearing from business owners and our agency partners how ReachLocal has completely transformed their business. If that’s the outcome of a job well done—I’ll keep doing it.

Overall the company is descent. Its better than any yellow page company and/or other internet marketing companies. However, as a sales rep, you are used and abused with little or no respect. You are just a number. The number of employees in the office is relatively small, so all the leads get send to the favorites. If this company wants to succeed, they have to start thinking about their bread and butter, the IMC!

If you can suck up to management, you better start doing it your first day on the job!

The pay is low compered with the industry standards. With the company reduction in commission, the pay became a joke. You need to have at least 30+ clients to be able to make any money.

As for co-worker competence, they hire people who are morons when it comes to internet, and yet your supposed to be an internet marketing consultant.

ReachLocal provides salespeople with a strong drive to succeed a tremendous opportunity to work with businesses and consult with them on the best digital marketing solutions available. It is a lot of work and very demanding job, but is very rewarding and fun to be with a company that is the leader in the category and is growing at such a tremendous pace.

Agree with DC and LA. The worst, and the high reviews are merely manager comments. I am quitting after 1st of year.
