Pros - The actual job is easy, drive a Suburban around hauling BNSF crews.
Most of the crews I've had know our job sucks and tend not to give me a hard time, the crew members I do transport that mess with me get reported for any slight safety violation (I can become a real prick if I have to.)
It beats being homeless.
Cons - Awful pay, no benefits, no vacation time.
You get called in on your day off 9 times out of 10.
High turn around. Most drivers are fired or quit within 6 months.
Company treats you like trash. Instead of talking to you like an adult, they give you little write ups for any screw up like children. And they will write you up for anything and everything.
If anyone files a hotline report against you, you're at fault. No questions asked.
Even with their "devotion" to safety, you get written up for refusing a trip due to fatigue, illness, day off or any other reason.
Some area supervisors get little power trips and attempt to write you up for anything.
Some dispatchers are rude and/or incompetent.
Company higher-ups set unrealistic safety goals and firmly believe 100% of accidents are the individual driver's fault regardless of what the police reports say.
You have to be on top of your DOT logs and compare them to your pay stub. The company will try to cheat you out of a few cents here and there.
You'll be fired for taking a vacation.
Even though you're issued a company phone with your vehicle, dispatch will always call you on your personal phone using up your minutes.
Vehicles with a drive cam installed are super sensitive to rocking motion and are easily set off just by turning the vehicle onto a side street unless you're doing less than 5MPH. Depending on your supervisor, you may get written up for that.
If your vehicle is involved in an accident, it's your fault. No questions asked.
All in all, one should only work for this company if they are on the verge of living on the street like I was. There's no hope for promotion, no raises, no bonuses, no vacation, no benefits. Work here only long enough to secure yourself a better job where you're treated with a little respect and like a human being where the bosses actually care about their people.
