If you're thinking of working for Dex, be prepared to play dirty...very dirty!

I worked for this vile company for about a year until I couldn't stand it anymore and left. The pay was good, it wasn't bad for a sales job BUT it was the ONLY good thing about this position. Other than that, it was a work environment full of backstabbing, hostile management, unprofessional conduct and double standards.

As an advertising consultant for this place, I was expected to make 80 to 90 outgoing calls per day or be on the phone for at least two hours. This is the job, it's phone sales (pretty much telemarketing). Management is terrible but I don't expect any better from them because the higher-ups are even worse! They actually promote backstabbing within the workplace, I can't tell you how many times my manager has mentioned to me to sweep in and take over someone else's account. I never did because I wanted to do the right thing and she even told me that she'll pay me $5 if I take over someone's account -- they really want you to play aggressive in this place. Instead of promoting teamwork, they promote selfishness.

Growth potential was slim, employee turnover is severely high. People can't stand being there, days after days of pissed off customers, rude managers and backstabbing coworkers? It's no wonder! And I have seen highly qualified people get passed over for promotion in favor of someone who's been there longer. Are you serious? You're gonna promote a mediocre sales rep instead of a highly qualified one just because of seniority issues? Director (Larry Hopkins) is the worst, I have seen him act totally rude to one of my coworkers, literally telling him to "Go sell or go find another job" in that exact word, not even kidding. This is in front of me and other people, so can you imagine THAT humiliation?

Coworkers was okay, you get some cool ones but ofcourse they will secretly steal your accounts behind your back. So that's why I said you have to play dirty to even survive here. If not, they'll steal everything from under you.

Work environment is unprofessional, employees are constantly breaking rules and managers look the other way as long as they bring home the money. For example, prospectors aren't supposed to drive around visiting customers but I personally know four that did. Did the manager know? YES, but did they care? Not at all! It's clearly stated in the rules that unless you're a premise (outside) sales rep, you CANNOT make customer visits. In the meantime, their numbers are looking awfully good and they get all the praise for cheating!

Absolutely disgusting. I can't believe I ever worked at this place, I urge you not to apply but then again, they do pay pretty good. I guess if you have pretty thick skin, a big ego, willingness to play dirty, backstabbing tendencies and ass kissing skills then you should apply! In fact, that should be the new job requirements!!

Sweet Jesus, honey. Good thing you managed to get out when you did. I'd heard that the sales side of things had deteriorated terribly, but since they cut off all communication between operations and sales save for a small team of poorly trained former ops folks who were in danger of being downsized, getting an idea of what sales was doing was limited to meetings at the coffee machine. Sales at Dex has always been a rigged, ridiculous affair. I used to be friends with several of them before they wisely moved on or retired and the whole customer allocation system and the multi-tiered sales organization made absolutely no sense and still doesn't. Sorry you had trouble with Larry - I knew him back in the day and with the RHDonnelley takeover, most of the sales managers have had to become what their overlords in Cary NC want them to be or lose their own jobs. Dex was never a great place to work, but you've proven my point in that the truly capable and smart know when to leave. Good luck!
