I have 5+ years in the field with USIS.
I have no career growth potential as a field investigator in my district. During 2009 and early 2010 my district demoted more than 1/3 of its middle management staff (Team Leaders) and did away with the positions. Being a field investigator is literally the only job available in my district; there are no lateral movement possibilities. I would have to relocate at my own expense just to put myself in the running for a promotion or lateral move.
I have no work/life balance as a field investigator in my district. I make the greatest effort possible to meet all production, quality and timeliness requirements; I typically work nights, weekends, holidays and overtime - and that's not including the "critical" periods when I am called upon to do even more. It plays hell with my personal responsibilities to spouse, children, family, friends, household, church, etc. I routinely have difficulty meeting my personal obligations. I am rarely able to keep doctor/dentist appointments or lunch/dinner dates without rescheduling multiple times and I have finally given up on keeping a gym schedule. I usually don't make it to family get-togethers anymore. Don't be fooled by working at home and setting your own schedule. All working from home means is that you are always at work.
I was previously employed in a much more demanding job that did not negatively affect my life this way.
I suggest bypassing USIS if you have other employment opportunities available.
